I’m Pretty Sure I’m Addicted to Coffee
“So what’s new?” you may ask. Well, I think a few months ago I wasn’t.
When I married my beautiful wife Lydia, I was working two jobs. One was full time from 6 am until 2:30 and the second was at night from around 5 until 10 or 11. I was tired a lot. I often took naps between jobs. I drank coffee but not a ton.
After we were married for a while my wife and I decided that I could probably quit my second job. I would open an Etsy Shop and take as many freelance jobs as I could get. Suddenly I was getting tons of sleep! Like, 7 or 8 hours a night!
After a few more months my hours changed at my job. Not a huge change, just an hour earlier. So now I was working 5 until 1:30. But that meant that to get 8 hours of sleep I had to go to bed at 8 pm. Well, after a while of doing that and my wife getting a little frustrated that we couldn’t hang out later at night. She made a good point.
We came up with this crazy idea that we should stay up until 11 each night. We could spend more time together and I would start drinking more coffee (that was literally part of the plan, I would drink more coffee).
The plan is awesome! I drink a couple cups of coffee a day at work, then come home and make myself a coffee or two on our espresso machine that we got ourselves for Christmas! And then maybe we’ll buy one from a coffee stand. It’s great!
Well a couple days ago on a Saturday I had been awake for a couple hours after sleeping in that morning and was feeling really down. Like I really needed some coffee. The feeling was weird because I pretty much only drink coffee because I’m tired, but since I’ve been only getting 5 hours of sleep during the week, that was pretty much all the time. But that day I had gotten about 9 hours of sleep. I shouldn’t be tired.
The idea that the only way I feel good when I drink coffee isn’t good. I know a lot of people who do this. They drink several cups of coffee a day and that’s just what they do. But really, that can’t be good for us. But for now it’s what I’m going to do. I’ll try to keep some good high protein snacks at work that I can eat instead of just getting another coffee, but I’ll still be drinking a bunch of coffee everyday. Maybe one day I’ll make a real change, but for now this is my coffee addicted life.
At least I have an espresso machine. And Lydia pulls some excellent shots!
