West Coast Aerial Service Business Cards
I had made the logo for West Coast Aerial Service and they needed business cards to go along with it. As I had worked on their logo a realized that the client leaned more towards clean and simple design without anything too jazzy or outspoken.
When I started making their business card I went with an idea that I thought would be very cool. It was interesting and not like any I had seen before! It would have been catchy and people would remember their card! But as I was working on it, I realized that the client wouldn’t like it. So I made it a little more subtle, and thought I would just have to convince them that they should use that idea. I didn’t finish it before I had to do something else, so I left it for the night.
The next day I realized that I shouldn’t try and make someone I am working for do something they don’t want to. That’s wrong. They hired me to make them a design that they like, not one that I like.
So I went ahead making them a design that is simple, clean and understated. What I ended up with was amazing. Its simple, clean, understated, and it demands attention. By not trying to do something that I wanted to do, I made something that is both what the client wanted, and so much better than what I had in mind anyway.
I guess I gained more from this job than just a few bucks. I think I learned a lesson.
